Edinburgh Rugby Community Activity in Partnership with P&P


  • Inclusion Programme – Using rugby as a catalyst, this is a school referral initiative to help a diverse group of young people who would not normally have the opportunity to interact with Edinburgh Rugby, develop their social and academic skills.
  • Rugby AcademyIn conjunction with the City of Edinburgh Council, a rugby skills and conditioning programme is run for local authority state school boys and girls who show signs of athleticism and ability to form part of the SRU pathway at U16 level. The aim of this programme is to provide additional ‘time on task’ and the bridge the gap between independent and state school rugby players.
  • Rugby Camps – 600 boys and girls take part during the Easter holidays, including:
  1. Rascals – Camps for P4-P7 kids is all about FUN, meeting new people and having a good time.

  2. Miss-Pass – S1-S6 girls only camp for games and friendship.

  3. Renegades – For boys aged S1-S4 this camp steps things up a level and challenges players of the future.

  • 1872 Rugby Festival –Over 400 kids from across the East take part in a festival of rugby prior to the Edinburgh Rugby vs. Glasgow Warriors 1872 match.
  • Schools Festivals – Edinburgh Rugby facilitate all school and club competitions in the city with over 1000 kids taking part in these highly regarded competitions.  The Edinburgh 7’s series is the longest standing competition of its kind in the country.
  • Primary and Schools Competitions – Non-contact and contact festivals for all age groups including the Tier 4 Competition which give schools who don’t have enough players to take part in the XV-a-side regional conference system an opportunity to turn up and play.
  • Guard of Honour – Up to 50 children are chosen to carry out this special role at every home game.  Over 20 clubs and 1,000 children have been involved this season. 
  • School visits – Edinburgh Rugby players surprise children (and teachers) with coaching activity during school time. 55 player appearances have happened so far this season.
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award - Edinburgh Rugby is working with BATS (Broughton, Accies & Trinity) to assist the delivery of the 1st ever Duke of Edinburgh Award aligned to rugby. Young people on the course volunteer their time to help Edinburgh Rugby’s community activity on a match day.
  • Ticket give-aways – through the Development Officers, we are giving away 500 tickets to the last home game of the season to deserving schools and clubs. Over 2,000 tickets will have been given away by the end of the season.
  • Schools Ambassadors – a network to help support and promote our initiatives within schools and throughout the Lothians.
  • Charity support – Throughout the year Edinburgh Rugby and P&P will support various charities including giving Christmas presents to the Edinburgh Royal Hospital for Sick Children, the Ronald Macdonald House and giving away warm clothing and hot food to the homeless.
